The defendant is currently incarcerated, serving a 17-year prison term handed down in a previous case involving sexual crimes against three female cult members. The JMS, also known as Jeong Myeong Seok and the Providence, has been the subject of repeated criminal investigations and civil lawsuits over allegations of sexual exploitation and financial abuse of its followers.
