BAYOMBONG — Heavy rains associated with the southwest monsoon triggered a landslide that forced authorities to shut down a critical provincial thoroughfare in Nueva Vizcaya on Wednesday. The Junction-Kayapa Proper road, which serves the town of Kayapa, became impassable at the Oyawe section beginning at 7:02 a.m., according to the local disaster risk reduction and management council. Continuous rainfall caused progressive soil erosion in the area, eventually blocking the route entirely. The closure has disrupted travel and commerce in the region as officials assess damage and determine when repairs can begin. Disaster responders remained on standby to monitor conditions, with further deterioration possible if monsoon rains persist in the coming days.
