Southwest monsoon to bring heavy rains across Luzon, Visayas

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) issued a weather advisory Sunday evening cautioning residents of continued monsoon rains sweeping across the archipelago. The enhanced southwest monsoon, locally known as the habagat, is expected to persist throughout the day, bringing substantial precipitation to vulnerable areas.

According to Pagasa's 5 p.m. advisory, monsoon rains in affected areas could reach up to 200 millimeters, creating conditions conducive to flooding and landslides in susceptible localities. Residents in low-lying communities and areas prone to water accumulation have been advised to exercise caution and prepare contingency measures.

Luzon and select portions of the Visayas remain under the weather bureau's watch as the monsoon system continues its northwesterly progression. Authorities recommend that residents monitor weather updates regularly and heed all government directives regarding potential hazards associated with heavy rainfall and water-related incidents.
