Southwest monsoon to drench Luzon, Visayas through midweek

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecast persistent monsoon conditions affecting multiple areas on Monday, with wet weather expected to extend through the middle of the week. Weather specialist Aldzcar Aurelio outlined the extended outlook in the bureau's 5 a.m. forecast bulletin, noting that the southwest monsoon would continue channeling moisture into the affected regions.

Residents in vulnerable areas of Luzon and the Visayas are advised to prepare for prolonged rainfall that could lead to localized flooding and mudslides in low-lying communities and areas with poor drainage systems. The habagat typically brings heavy precipitation during the southwest monsoon season, which runs from June through September in the Philippines.

Meteorology officials urged the public to monitor updates from Pagasa as weather conditions may change. Residents are advised to avoid travel in flood-prone areas and to heed warnings from local disaster risk reduction management offices during the period of active monsoon conditions.
