SP files nominations for Rajya Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh
Samajwadi Party candidates Ram Gopal Yadav and Dhanraj Nathwani have filed their nomination papers for the Upper House elections in Uttar Pradesh. The party is also expected to field a third candidate despite unfavourable seat arithmetic.

Ram Gopal Yadav and Dhanraj Parimal Nathwani, a senior executive at Reliance Industries Limited, submitted their nominations for the Rajya Sabha elections on Wednesday in the presence of Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, senior leader Shivpal Yadav and party MLAs.
Based on the current composition of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, the BJP-led alliance is positioned to secure eight of the nine seats being contested, while the Samajwadi Party, supported by the Congress, is expected to win two seats. Party leadership has nonetheless indicated plans to nominate a third candidate.
"We will declare a third candidate also," said party spokesperson Rajendra Chowdhury. When questioned about the prospects of the third nominee, Chowdhury claimed that several BJP MLAs have expressed dissatisfaction with the government's functioning and would extend support to Samajwadi Party candidates.
The elections were called following the completion of terms for nine Rajya Sabha members from the state.
