The Samajwadi Party (SP) has emerged victorious in the Varanasi teachers' constituency during Wednesday's Legislative Council elections, capitalizing on strong voter backing in the key Uttar Pradesh region. The win marks a notable performance for the regional party in one of India's most politically significant states.
Elsewhere in Uttar Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) demonstrated continued strength, with Dr. Hari Singh Dhillon securing a commanding victory in the Bareilly teachers' constituency. Dhillon defeated SP candidate Haji Danish Akhtar by a margin of 17,676 votes, underscoring the BJP's hold in certain educational constituencies across the state.
In Bihar, the Janata Dal (United) candidate Neeraj Kumar is leading in the Patna graduates' seat, while BJP candidates have established clear advantages in the Darbhanga and Kosi constituencies. The results reflect the continued influence of national and regional parties across different voter demographics in the eastern state.
The elections, held simultaneously across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, and Maharashtra, covered 28 Legislative Council seats and tested voter preferences across educational and general constituencies. Results indicate no sweeping national trend, with performance varying significantly by region and seat type.
