SpaceX set for significant weight boost in Nasdaq 100 index

SpaceX is expected to see a substantial increase in its weighting within the Nasdaq 100 index following an upcoming rebalancing exercise. According to preliminary data released by Nasdaq's Global Index Watch, the company's representation in the index is projected to rise to approximately 2.82 per cent from its current level of roughly 1.28 per cent.

The increase represents more than a doubling of SpaceX's index weighting and underscores the growing market prominence of the private aerospace manufacturer. Index rebalancing exercises occur periodically to ensure that constituent weightings remain aligned with market capitalisation and other relevant metrics.

For investors tracking the Nasdaq 100, which comprises the largest non-financial companies listed on the Nasdaq exchange, the adjustment will result in a greater exposure to SpaceX's performance. The index rebalancing is based on pro forma data circulated by Nasdaq's index management team and reflects current market conditions.

The move highlights the increasing influence of space technology companies in equity markets. As SpaceX continues to expand its operations in satellite internet provision and commercial space services, its market valuation has correspondingly grown, warranting the enhanced index representation.
