SpaceX Sets US Record with Fastest Crewed Station Flight
Four astronauts, including a Canadian, reached the International Space Station in eight hours Thursday in the speediest journey yet for any American space agency. The rapid transit marks a milestone for SpaceX after a three-week delay to resolve technical issues.

A SpaceX Dragon capsule carrying four crew members docked at the International Space Station on Thursday, completing the fastest crewed flight to the orbiting laboratory in US history. The eight-hour journey from Earth surpassed previous speed records set by both SpaceX and NASA, capitalizing on optimal orbital positioning at launch time.
Commander Jessica Watkins led the mission, making history as the first Black woman to command a crew to orbit. The crew lifted off from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida under clearing skies after threatening weather conditions persisted throughout the morning. The launch came after SpaceX postponed the mission three weeks earlier to repair a fuel system leak detected in the Dragon capsule.
Watkins brings extensive experience to the role, having worked as a geologist on NASA's Curiosity rover project during its groundbreaking Mars exploration mission a decade ago. Among her crew members is a Canadian astronaut whose family will experience his arrival at the station remotely during his planned six-month assignment.
Despite the record-breaking transit time, the astronauts will spend six months aboard the International Space Station conducting research and maintaining the facility. The rapid journey demonstrates advances in SpaceX's capabilities to safely and efficiently transport crews to the orbital outpost.
