Special body to monitor ministerial spending, says Puad
A dedicated oversight body should be established to track government ministry expenditure and identify instances of overspending or underspending, according to a former UMNO supreme council member.

A special monitoring body is needed to oversee how government ministries spend their allocated budgets, said Puad Zarkashi, a former member of UMNO's top leadership council.
Puad suggested that such a dedicated unit could effectively track ministerial expenditure patterns and identify instances where departments either exceed their budgets or fail to utilise allocated funds efficiently.
The proposal comes as part of ongoing discussions about improving fiscal accountability within Malaysia's government apparatus. Enhanced spending oversight could help ensure that public funds are distributed and utilised in accordance with budget allocations and policy objectives.
Such a monitoring mechanism would complement existing audit and accounting frameworks, providing real-time visibility into how different ministries manage their financial resources throughout the fiscal year.
