SpiceJet clarifies DGCA monitoring does not signal fresh safety concerns

The budget airline filed a clarification with the Bombay Stock Exchange on Monday, responding to recent public statements about its regulatory status. SpiceJet emphasised that the DGCA's current monitoring relates to a broader review of the carrier's operational and financial position rather than new safety violations.

The airline noted that regulatory audits, surveillance and spot checks are routine components of the DGCA's oversight framework applied across the civil aviation sector. SpiceJet stated it has undergone multiple such regulatory exercises previously and that the current monitoring should not be construed as a fresh declaration or finding of safety concerns.

The clarification comes after Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu indicated last month that SpiceJet was subject to DGCA scrutiny. The stock exchange had sought clarification from the airline on September 22 regarding the minister's statement.

SpiceJet, which has faced persistent operational challenges and financial pressures, has been navigating heightened regulatory attention in recent months. The airline's efforts to distinguish between routine regulatory monitoring and specific safety findings reflect concerns about potential investor perception amid its already strained circumstances.
