BRUSSELS — Sportradar Group, a leading provider of sports technology solutions, is facing formal antitrust complaints filed simultaneously with the European Commission and UK regulators on Wednesday. The complaints were lodged by Altenar Technologies, a sportsbook software developer, which contends that Sportradar is using its market position to restrict rivals' access to live official sports data.
Altenar's complaint centres on allegations that Sportradar leverages its dominance in sports data distribution to disadvantage competitors seeking to access the same information. The restrictions, the company argues, create unfair competitive barriers in the sportsbook and sports technology sectors across Europe and the United Kingdom.
The filing marks an escalation in competitive tensions within the sports data and betting technology industry. Sportradar has established itself as a major player in licensing official sports data and statistics to betting platforms and media companies across multiple jurisdictions.
Neither the European Commission nor UK regulators have immediately commented on the complaints. Antitrust investigations into such matters typically take several months to assess, with authorities examining whether the company has abused a dominant market position in violation of competition law.
The case underscores growing scrutiny of data gatekeepers in the sports and gambling sectors, where control over official live information can confer significant commercial advantages to incumbent players.
