Sports Minister suspends registration of badminton and cycling bodies

Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage has issued Extraordinary Gazette notifications suspending the registration of Sri Lanka Badminton (SLB) and the Cycling Federation of Sri Lanka (CFSL), citing alleged misconduct within the two sports bodies.

The move comes as part of a broader effort to address governance concerns in the national sports sector. Under powers vested in his office, the Minister has mandated the establishment of transformation committees tasked with investigating the alleged irregularities affecting both organizations.

The temporary suspension will remain in effect pending the completion of investigations by the appointed committees. Both bodies will operate under the oversight of these committees during the interim period.

The decision reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen administrative oversight and accountability measures across Sri Lanka's sports governance framework. Further updates on the progress of investigations are expected as the transformation committees conduct their reviews.
