Sri Aman records only very unhealthy air quality reading nationwide

KUALA LUMPUR — Sri Aman was the only area in Malaysia to register a very unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) reading as haze conditions persisted across the region on Friday afternoon. The Sarawak town recorded a reading of 216 as of 4 pm, placing it in the very unhealthy category, according to monitoring data released by air quality authorities.
Despite the haze affecting multiple areas, no locations nationwide had escalated to hazardous API levels — the highest and most concerning category — during the monitoring period. The very unhealthy classification indicates residents, particularly those with respiratory conditions, elderly people and children, should take precautions to limit outdoor activities.
Malaysia's API scale classifies readings of 201-300 as very unhealthy, while hazardous conditions are defined as API readings exceeding 300. Authorities continued monitoring air quality across major population centres throughout the peninsula and East Malaysia as transboundary haze from regional sources continued to affect atmospheric conditions.
