Sri Lanka bakery owners announce price hikes for bread, pastries

The All Ceylon Bakery Owners' Association (ACBOA) announced Tuesday that prices for bakery products will increase across the board, with the new rates taking effect from midnight on October 30. A 450-gram loaf of bread will see a Rs. 5 price increase under the revised pricing structure.

ACBOA President M.K. Jayawardena confirmed that the association had approved uniform price increases of Rs. 5 for most bakery items, including pastries and other flour-based products. The decision reflects broader pressures on input costs and operational expenses faced by bakery businesses throughout the country.

The price adjustment marks the latest increase in essential food items as Sri Lanka continues to navigate economic challenges affecting producers and consumers alike. Bakery products remain staple items in Sri Lankan households, making the pricing decisions closely watched by the general public.

The ACBOA represents bakery owners across the island and coordinates industry positions on matters affecting production costs and retail pricing. The association has periodically adjusted prices in response to fluctuations in raw material costs and other operational factors.
