Sri Lanka begins third APG mutual evaluation assessment

Sri Lanka has launched its third mutual evaluation meeting as part of the Asia-Pacific Group's (APG) ongoing assessment framework. The evaluation process represents a critical examination of the country's compliance with international standards on anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorism financing (CTF) measures.

The APG mutual evaluation mechanism is designed to assess member countries' adherence to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) recommendations and their effectiveness in combating financial crime. These periodic reviews help ensure that nations maintain robust systems to prevent money laundering and the financing of terrorism.

The third mutual evaluation comes as Sri Lanka continues to strengthen its financial regulatory framework and institutional capacity in the fight against illicit financial flows. The assessment will examine the country's legislative measures, enforcement mechanisms, and institutional arrangements established to address AML/CTF compliance.

The evaluation process typically involves comprehensive reviews of a country's financial sector, reporting obligations, investigation procedures, and international cooperation mechanisms. Findings from such assessments are used to identify areas requiring improvement and to guide policy recommendations for member states.

As a member of the APG, Sri Lanka participates in peer-review processes aimed at maintaining international standards in financial integrity and security across the Asia-Pacific region.
