The positive rating action from the international credit agency has been received as validation of Sri Lanka's stabilization efforts following the economic crisis of 2022. Chamber representatives have expressed optimism about the upgrade's potential to restore investor confidence and support the country's economic recovery trajectory.
However, business leaders have emphasized that the rating improvement alone is insufficient without sustained commitment to structural reforms. Industry stakeholders have called for continued progress on fiscal consolidation, debt management, and institutional strengthening to ensure long-term economic sustainability.
The upgrade reflects improvements in macroeconomic indicators and the government's implementation of International Monetary Fund programme conditions. Business chambers have noted that maintaining these gains will require focused attention on revenue mobilization, expenditure discipline, and measures to enhance competitiveness.
Sector representatives have also highlighted the need for reforms that address supply-side constraints and improve the business environment. They have stressed that investor confidence, while recovering, remains contingent on consistent policy implementation and transparent governance practices going forward.
