Sri Lanka dengue cases exceed 99,000 as Western Province bears brunt
Dengue cases in Sri Lanka have surpassed 99,600, with the Western Province accounting for more than half of all reported infections. The Gampaha district has emerged as the epicentre of the outbreak, health authorities confirmed.

Sri Lanka's dengue crisis has deepened with confirmed case numbers reaching 99,634 as of the latest health ministry update, while the case fatality rate remains relatively low at 0.077%.
The Western Province continues to shoulder the heaviest burden of the outbreak, accounting for 52,340 cases or 52.53% of the national total. Among the province's districts, Gampaha has recorded the highest concentration of dengue infections, making it the most severely affected area in the country.
The National Dengue Control Unit, which is tracking the epidemic, has not provided immediate indication of peak or plateau in case numbers. The outbreak's persistence across multiple districts underscores ongoing challenges in vector control measures and community surveillance efforts.
Health authorities have maintained emphasis on preventive measures including elimination of mosquito breeding sites and early case detection. The relatively contained fatality rate suggests that while transmission remains widespread, severe outcomes remain limited.
