The Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education has announced amendments to the 'Suraksha' student insurance scheme to include expenses related to HIV/AIDS diagnosis and testing. Secretary to the Ministry Nalaka Kaluwewa issued the directive through Circular No. 2024/29 (II), which has been distributed to provincial education authorities, education directors, and school principals across the country.
The expanded coverage represents an effort to integrate comprehensive health screening into the existing student insurance framework. By incorporating HIV testing costs under the scheme, the ministry aims to remove financial barriers that may prevent students from accessing early diagnostic services.
The amendment details have been formally communicated to education administrators at all levels, ensuring uniform implementation across both provincial and national school systems.
