Sri Lanka's merchandise exports expanded by 21.66 percent in September 2026, marking a significant acceleration in the country's trade performance amid recovering global demand conditions.
Electronics and spices emerged as the primary growth engines for the month's export surge. The electronics sector's contribution reflected continued competitiveness in regional supply chains, while spice exports capitalized on sustained international demand for Sri Lankan cardamom, cinnamon, and other specialty products.
The September performance builds on recent momentum in Sri Lanka's export sector as the economy navigates post-pandemic recovery and pursues trade diversification strategies. Analysts attribute the growth partly to improved production capacity utilization and stronger order flows from key trading partners.
The expansion in goods exports comes as Sri Lanka seeks to reinvigorate its trade balance and generate foreign exchange revenues. Continued growth in both traditional sectors and emerging export categories will be crucial for supporting the country's economic recovery trajectory in coming months.
