Sri Lanka is experiencing fresh rounds of power cuts as the electricity sector struggles to maintain adequate supply across the country. The recurring outages highlight persistent challenges in balancing energy generation with rising domestic and industrial demand.
The power interruptions reflect broader structural issues within Sri Lanka's energy infrastructure. Generation capacity constraints, combined with maintenance schedules at key thermal and hydroelectric facilities, have limited the Ceylon Electricity Board's ability to meet peak-hour demand.
Experts point to the need for urgent attention to renewable energy projects and infrastructure upgrades to address the chronic supply-demand gap. The situation has renewed calls for accelerated implementation of alternative energy sources and improved grid management to reduce disruptions to businesses and households.
Consumers and commercial operators have been forced to adapt to intermittent supply, with many investing in backup power solutions. Authorities continue to appeal for reduced consumption during peak hours while work progresses on long-term capacity expansion initiatives.
