A high-level discussion on the Anuradhapura Sacred City Development Plan took place Wednesday afternoon at the Presidential Secretariat, bringing together Sri Lankan and Indian officials to advance the collaborative project.

The meeting was led by Chief of Presidential Staff Prabath Chandrakeerthi and Acting Deputy High Commissioner and First Secretary of the High Commission of India Roshini Thomson. The talks underscored the commitment of both nations to preserving and developing the historically significant site.

The initiative gained momentum during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent official visit to Sri Lanka, during which the development plan was discussed as part of broader bilateral cooperation on cultural and heritage matters.

Anuradhapura, one of Sri Lanka's most sacred Buddhist cities, has long held significance as a centre of Buddhist pilgrimage and learning. The development plan aims to balance preservation of the site's historical character with sustainable infrastructure improvements to accommodate visitors and support local communities.

The discussions represent continued efforts by Colombo and New Delhi to strengthen partnership on matters of shared cultural and historical importance in the region.
