Sri Lanka-Indonesia Business Council seeks to deepen bilateral investment ties

The Sri Lanka-Indonesia Business Council has renewed its commitment to strengthening economic partnerships between Colombo and Jakarta, with senior business representatives emphasising the need for increased bilateral investment flows.

The initiative comes as both nations seek to diversify their economic partnerships and tap into emerging opportunities in trade, manufacturing, and services. Business leaders from both countries have identified several priority sectors for potential collaboration, reflecting shared economic interests and complementary market strengths.

Official discussions have centred on removing barriers to investment and improving the ease of doing business between the two South Asian and Southeast Asian neighbours. The council has underscored the importance of regular dialogue between private sector stakeholders and government authorities to facilitate smoother business operations.

Indonesia represents a significant market with over 270 million people, while Sri Lanka's strategic location along major shipping routes positions it as an attractive hub for regional commerce. Enhanced bilateral ties are expected to benefit entrepreneurs and investors from both nations, with potential expansion into sectors including coconut products, textiles, tourism, and value-added manufacturing.

The business council plans to pursue concrete measures in coming months to translate advocacy into tangible investment projects, aiming to establish stronger commercial networks and knowledge-sharing platforms between the two countries.
