Sri Lanka introduces online rail ticket booking system amid labour action
Sri Lankan rail passengers can now purchase train tickets online through a newly launched digital platform, offering an alternative booking method as industrial action affects services.

The Department of Government Information announced the introduction of an online ticketing facility for Sri Lanka's railway network, accessible via the website www.pravesha.lk and a dedicated mobile application.
The 'Pravesha' platform enables commuters to book and purchase train tickets electronically, streamlining the traditional counter-based booking process. The initiative aims to enhance convenience for regular and occasional passengers navigating the island's rail network.
The launch of the digital ticketing system comes as the Railway Joint Trade Union Alliance has initiated industrial action, including a 48-hour strike in protest over various employment-related grievances. The online facility provides passengers with an alternative method to secure tickets during periods of potential service disruptions.
The Department stated that the system is now operational and available for public use. Further details regarding booking procedures, payment options, and system features are available through the official platform and mobile application.
