The Director of Irrigation's Hydrology and Disaster Management division has issued a precautionary alert regarding possible minor flooding in low-lying areas adjacent to the Attanagalu Oya and Kalu Ganga river systems.
Engineer L. S. Sooriyabandara cautioned that vulnerable areas could experience flooding should significant rainfall occur in the coming hours. The warning follows observations of current water levels in both river systems, with particular attention being paid to the Millakanda and Ellagawa zones along the Kalu Ganga.
The alert underscores the importance of residents in flood-prone areas remaining vigilant during periods of heavy rain. Authorities continue to monitor hydrological conditions across both catchments as part of ongoing disaster preparedness efforts.
The Irrigation Department regularly issues such warnings during the monsoon season to help minimize potential damage to property and safeguard lives in vulnerable communities near river basins.
