Sri Lanka issues maritime warning as Bay of Bengal conditions deteriorate
The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre has issued an alert for multi-day fishing vessels operating in deep waters off Sri Lanka's northern coast, citing strong winds and rough seas expected over the next 24 hours.

The warning, issued at 3 p.m. on November 1st, applies to multi-day boats in the Bay of Bengal deep sea areas extending from Mannar to Trincomalee via Kankasanthurai. Maritime authorities have advised fishing communities to exercise caution and consider postponing operations in the affected regions.
The hazardous conditions are attributed to a deep depression system developing over the Southeast Bay of Bengal. The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre monitors such systems closely and issues regular updates to ensure the safety of vessels operating in offshore waters.
Fishermen in the affected areas are urged to remain alert to further advisories. The warning remains valid for 24 hours from the time of issue, though conditions may be reassessed as the weather system develops. Maritime authorities recommend that vessel operators check for updated forecasts before departing for deep sea fishing operations.
