Sri Lanka Launches Digital Customs Declaration System

A ceremony held at the Sri Lanka Customs Auditorium on Monday officially launched the Paperless Customs Declaration Process, a significant overhaul of how the nation's customs administration operates. The initiative was introduced jointly by the Revenue Administration Reforms and Modernisation Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat and Sri Lanka Customs, with the event held under the patronage of the Deputy Minister.

The digital system represents a substantial transformation in Sri Lanka's approach to customs procedures, replacing traditional paper-based documentation with electronic processes. This modernisation is expected to streamline customs operations, reduce processing times, and improve efficiency across import and export declarations.

The launch reflects Sri Lanka's broader efforts to digitise government services and enhance trade facilitation. By eliminating paper-dependent workflows, the customs authority aims to create a more transparent and efficient system that benefits both businesses and the state revenue collection process.

The implementation of the paperless system is part of wider customs reforms intended to bring Sri Lanka's trade administration in line with contemporary international standards and best practices in border management.
