The Suraksha Student Insurance Program has been rolled out with the objective of creating an enabling environment for students who face disruptions to their schooling due to health complications. The scheme is designed to allow pupils to continue their studies without interruption despite encountering medical obstacles.
The program extends coverage to students enrolled in government schools, government-approved private schools, Pirivenas, and assisted special education institutions across the country. By providing insurance protection, the initiative seeks to safeguard vulnerable students and ensure that health-related issues do not become barriers to educational access and continuity.
The implementation of the scheme for the 2026/2027 academic year marks a significant step toward inclusive education policy. Officials have indicated that the program aims to address systemic gaps that leave students vulnerable when facing unexpected health crises that could otherwise force them to abandon their studies.
The comprehensive nature of the program's coverage reflects the government's commitment to supporting students across diverse educational settings, from mainstream institutions to specialized centers serving students with particular needs. Authorities have emphasized that removing health-related obstacles will contribute to improved educational outcomes and retention rates nationwide.
