Sri Lanka Navy mobilises relief teams as severe weather sweeps island

The Sri Lanka Navy announced Tuesday that it has deployed 171 disaster relief teams across the island to respond to weather-related emergencies affecting various parts of the country. The maritime service said the teams remain on high alert to provide immediate assistance to residents impacted by the ongoing adverse conditions.

In addition to the standby relief personnel, the Navy has positioned 14 vessels to support evacuation and rescue operations should they become necessary. The deployment reflects the Navy's readiness to launch coordinated disaster management efforts in coordination with civilian authorities.

The move comes as severe weather continues to disrupt normal conditions in multiple districts.
