Discussions to combine the two defence-related funds have been initiated at the highest levels of government, the Defence Ministry announced, with Deputy Minister of Defence Major General (retd.) Aruna Jayasekara chairing talks at the Presidential Secretariat.
The proposed amalgamation of the National Defence Fund and the 'Api Wenuwen Api' Fund reflects government efforts to consolidate defence-sector financial mechanisms. Officials indicated that merging the two funds could improve administrative efficiency and centralise fund management under a unified framework.
A key component of the initiative involves the appointment of an expert committee tasked with overseeing the integration process. The committee is expected to examine the operational structure, financial protocols, and administrative requirements necessary for the successful merger of both funds.
The Defence Ministry has not yet provided a timeline for the completion of the merger or detailed specifics regarding how the combined fund would operate. Further announcements on the composition of the expert committee and its mandate are anticipated in coming weeks as discussions progress.
