Sri Lanka, Poland sign extradition agreement to enhance law enforcement cooperation

Sri Lanka's Cabinet has formally approved an extradition agreement with Poland, marking a significant step in deepening law enforcement collaboration between the two countries. The bilateral accord establishes formal mechanisms for the mutual exchange and repatriation of sentenced offenders, leveraging provisions already enshrined in Sri Lanka's Extradition Act.

The agreement reflects both nations' commitment to combating transnational crime and ensuring that individuals convicted of serious offences cannot evade justice by fleeing across international borders. Under the framework, both countries will cooperate in the arrest and surrender of fugitives and convicts sought by either nation's judicial authorities.

Sri Lanka's Extradition Act provides the legal foundation for such bilateral arrangements, permitting the formal procedures necessary for the transfer of sentenced criminals between signatory nations. The new pact with Poland supplements existing international agreements and reinforces Sri Lanka's participation in the global criminal justice framework.
