Sri Lanka raises Octane 95 petrol price by Rs. 20 per litre

Sri Lanka's fuel pricing mechanism has triggered an upward adjustment to petrol costs effective from midnight on 4th January. The price of Octane 95 petrol, the most commonly used fuel grade in the country, has risen from Rs. 495 to Rs. 515 per litre, representing a Rs. 20 increase per unit.

The price revision comes as part of the government's automatic fuel pricing formula, which adjusts rates based on international crude oil prices and exchange rate fluctuations. Such periodic adjustments have become routine in Sri Lanka's fuel market over recent years.

Motorists and transport operators are likely to feel the impact of the increase on operational costs. The adjustment affects not only private vehicle owners but also commercial transport services across the country, potentially influencing broader transportation and logistics expenses.

The Energy Ministry has not issued additional statements regarding further price adjustments in the immediate term. Stakeholders continue to monitor international petroleum markets and currency movements that typically influence Sri Lanka's domestic fuel pricing decisions.
