Sri Lanka's power transmission network has been fully restored after a significant system failure triggered a nationwide blackout earlier today. The National System Operator (Pvt) Ltd. confirmed the restoration of the electricity transmission system, which had been disrupted during the incident that occurred around 11.45 a.m.
The islandwide outage affected consumers and essential services across the country, with the power utility working to bring systems back online. The restoration of transmission infrastructure marks a critical step toward normalizing electricity supply nationwide.
The Ambatale water treatment plant, a key facility in Sri Lanka's water supply infrastructure, has resumed operations following the restoration of power supply. The plant's resumption is expected to aid in the restoration of water services to affected areas.
Authorities have indicated that electricity supply across the country is expected to return to normal in the coming hours as the system stabilizes following the restoration efforts. The National System Operator has not yet issued a formal statement detailing the cause of the initial system failure.
