A formal review of the 1818 hotline's performance took place Thursday morning at the Presidential Secretariat, chaired by Secretary to the President Dr Nandika Sanath Kumanayake. The hotline was launched as a cornerstone component of the 'A Nation United' national operation, a comprehensive government drive aimed at combating illicit drug trafficking and related criminal activities across the country.

The 1818 service functions as a dedicated reporting mechanism, enabling members of the public to provide information and intelligence concerning drug-related offences. By centralizing such reports through a single accessible channel, authorities aim to enhance coordination between enforcement agencies and improve response times to drug-related incidents.

Thursday's review examined progress made since the hotline's introduction, assessing both operational performance metrics and the quality of intelligence gathered. Officials evaluated implementation strategies and discussed measures to increase public awareness and utilization of the service.

The initiative reflects the government's commitment to addressing the drug problem through community participation and transparent reporting mechanisms. Officials indicated the review process would inform policy adjustments to maximize the hotline's effectiveness in supporting broader anti-narcotics efforts across Sri Lanka.
