Sri Lanka rupee holds steady at 330 per dollar amid stable bond market

The rupee was quoted at 330.15/30 against the US dollar in spot transactions, reflecting continued stability in the foreign exchange market after months of volatility.

Government bond yields held their ground across maturities, indicating steady investor sentiment toward Sri Lankan sovereign debt. The stability in the bond market suggests confidence among fixed-income investors despite ongoing economic challenges.

The steadiness in both the currency and bond markets provides a measure of relief for policymakers as the central bank continues efforts to stabilize the external sector. The rupee has recovered considerably from the depths of the 2022 currency crisis when it plunged to historic lows against major currencies.

Analysts attribute the recent stability to improved foreign exchange reserves and tighter monetary policy measures implemented over the past months. However, external pressures remain as the island nation continues servicing its substantial foreign debt obligations while working toward debt restructuring agreements with creditors.
