Sri Lanka selects 'Riverstone' for 99th Academy Awards competition

Sri Lanka's National Film Corporation has designated 'Riverstone', directed by Lalith Rathnayake, as the island nation's official entry for the International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards ceremony.
The announcement was made by Sudath Mahaadivulwewa, Chairman of the National Film Corporation and head of Sri Lanka's National Oscar Selection Committee, during a media briefing held on September 28.
The selection of 'Riverstone' follows a rigorous review process conducted by the National Oscar Selection Committee to identify a film that best represents Sri Lanka's cinema on the global stage. The submission places the production in contention for consideration in the Academy's International Feature Film category, one of the most competitive divisions at the annual awards ceremony.
The 99th Academy Awards will see films from around the world competing across numerous categories, with the International Feature Film award recognizing outstanding achievement in non-English language cinema. Sri Lanka's entry will now proceed through the Academy's preliminary screening and evaluation phases before final nominations are announced.
