Sri Lanka sends off para athletes for 2026 Asian Games in Japan

A formal send-off ceremony for Sri Lankan para-athletes competing at the upcoming 5th Asian Para Games was held at the Embassy of Japan in Colombo on Saturday. Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka Akio Isomata hosted the event, which brought together officials and competitors preparing for the international competition.

The gathering underscored the significance of Sri Lanka's participation in the regional para-sports event and provided an opportunity to recognise the athletes' commitment to representing the country on the continental stage. Officials from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports attended the ceremony, highlighting government support for the nation's para-athletic programmes.

The Asian Para Games, one of Asia's premier sporting events for para-athletes, will take place in Aichi-Nagoya next year. Sri Lanka's participation in the games reflects the country's growing engagement with competitive para-sports and commitment to advancing opportunities for athletes with disabilities.
