Sri Lanka to Disburse October Aswesuma Welfare Payments Tomorrow

The Ministry of Social Services is proceeding with scheduled disbursements of the Aswesuma welfare programme for October, marking the latest round of financial assistance to vulnerable households across the island.

Under the first phase of the initiative, Rs. 9.12 billion will be transferred to 985,283 beneficiary families. A further Rs. 2.04 billion has been allocated for 212,445 families participating in the second phase, bringing the combined October disbursement to approximately Rs. 11.16 billion.

The credit transfers are set to commence on 14 October, with funds routed directly to beneficiaries' registered bank accounts. The dual-phase structure of Aswesuma reflects the government's targeted approach to welfare distribution, categorising recipients based on socioeconomic vulnerability assessments.

The programme continues to serve as a critical safety net for lower-income families, providing regular monthly assistance to help offset the cost of living pressures. Beneficiaries are advised to confirm receipt of funds through their respective banks and contact programme administrators in case of any anomalies.
