Sri Lanka to impose Rs. 2,000 fine for unvaccinated, unregistered dogs

Sri Lanka is moving to enforce stricter regulations on dog ownership through new legislation that mandates vaccination and registration requirements for all canine pets. Under the proposed Bill, dog owners who fail to comply with these annual obligations will incur a fine of Rs. 2,000 per violation.

The regulatory framework will place responsibility on local authorities to maintain registers of vaccinated dogs within their jurisdictions. Pet owners will be required to submit proof of annual vaccination and complete registration procedures with their respective municipal or village councils to remain compliant with the law.

The initiative reflects growing concerns about controlling the spread of rabies and other communicable diseases through the canine population.
