Sri Lanka's power sector is set to provide relief to consumers following the resumption of operations at a major generating facility. The National System Operator announced that the Lakvijaya Power Plant in Norochcholai is expected to return to service on October 22, marking a significant step toward normalizing electricity supply.

With generation capacity recovering, authorities have determined that scheduled power cuts will no longer be necessary from October 23 onwards. The rotational cuts, which have disrupted households and businesses across various regions, have been a temporary measure implemented to manage demand against constrained supply during the maintenance period.

The restoration of the coal-fired facility represents a critical development for the island's power system, which has faced capacity challenges in recent months. Officials have indicated that the return to full operational capacity at Lakvijaya will provide sufficient generation to meet demand without requiring the systematic load-shedding measures that have affected consumers nationwide.

The lifting of scheduled power cuts is expected to provide immediate relief to residential and commercial consumers, allowing normal electricity supply patterns to resume across the country.
