Sri Lanka Treasury bill yields fall sharply across all maturities

Sri Lanka's Treasury bill yields fell across all maturities at Wednesday's debt auction, reflecting continued investor appetite for government securities, according to data released by the Public Debt Management Office.

The three-month bill yield declined 22 basis points to settle at 9.22 percent, with the full 55 billion rupees offered attracting sufficient bids for complete allocation. The six-month instrument also recorded gains, declining 18 basis points as the Central Bank successfully auctioned the remaining 85 billion rupees from the combined 140 billion rupee offering.

The across-the-board yield compression indicates sustained demand from domestic investors seeking short-term fixed income investments, signalling growing confidence in government debt instruments. The successful auction, with all bills sold at improved rates, suggests easing conditions in Sri Lanka's domestic credit market amid broader economic stabilisation efforts.

Wednesday's results continue a recent trend of declining Treasury bill yields, reflecting expectations of moderating inflation and potential monetary policy adjustments. The consistent demand at auctions provides the government with reliable funding at lower borrowing costs.
