A contingent of 20 officers and 55 other ranks from the Sri Lanka Army participated in the combined military exercise 'Wolverine Path II–2026' conducted jointly with the Russian Federation's Armed Forces in Vladivostok from September 18 to 25.
The Defence Ministry stated that the exercise was designed primarily to enhance counter-terrorism capabilities and operational readiness. The participation reflects ongoing military cooperation between Sri Lanka and Russia in the field of defence and security.
Joint military exercises of this nature provide armed forces personnel with opportunities to exchange tactical knowledge, test operational procedures, and build interoperability with international partners. The Vladivostok exercise brought together military personnel from both nations to engage in practical training scenarios and collaborative problem-solving.
The exercise forms part of a broader pattern of military engagement between Colombo and Moscow, demonstrating the countries' commitment to strengthening defence ties in the region. Such collaborative training initiatives enable armed forces to enhance their professional capabilities while fostering deeper bilateral military relationships.
