Officers from the Airport Police Narcotics Bureau apprehended the suspect late on September 29 as he attempted to transport the illicit drug through Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake. The seized consignment totalled 3 kilograms and 994 grams of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as 'Ice'.
The arrest underscores ongoing efforts by airport security personnel to intercept large-scale drug trafficking operations at Sri Lanka's primary international gateway. The Narcotics Bureau, which maintains dedicated units at BIA, conducts regular screening operations to prevent the movement of controlled substances through the airport.
The suspect, identified as a Sri Lankan national, was taken into custody for further questioning.
