Police have reiterated that the courts possess significant legal authority to take action against persons who evade arrest or remain absconding following the issuance of judicial warrants against them. The warning comes as authorities seek to ensure compliance with court orders across the country.
Under Section 60 of the Code of Criminal Procedure Act No. 15 of 1979, courts are empowered to issue written proclamations requiring individuals to appear before judicial authorities within a specified timeframe. Failure to comply with such proclamations can result in substantial legal penalties.
Among the enforcement mechanisms available to the courts is the seizure of property belonging to individuals who persistently evade legal proceedings. This provision is designed to incentivize compliance with court orders and ensure that persons subject to warrants do not remain at large indefinitely.
Police authorities have stressed that citizens should take any court warrant or proclamation seriously, as non-compliance may trigger additional legal consequences beyond the original charges. The statement underscores the importance of cooperation with the judicial system and adherence to court directives.
