SRM Medical College Rolls Out Mobile Cardiac Care Unit

SRM Medical College has launched a mobile cardiac unit designed to bring advanced heart disease screening and diagnostic services to underserved areas. The specially configured vehicle, which represents an investment of ₹1.3 crore, is equipped with comprehensive cardiac diagnostic equipment including two electrocardiography (ECG) machines and three echocardiography units.

The initiative reflects growing efforts among Indian medical institutions to extend specialized healthcare beyond urban centers. Mobile diagnostic units have emerged as a pragmatic solution to address the challenges of accessibility and early detection of cardiovascular ailments, which remain among the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in India.

The vehicle's equipment configuration enables the medical team to conduct preliminary cardiac assessments and screening programs in remote and semi-urban locations. Such units typically operate in partnership with local healthcare facilities and community health centers to facilitate patient referrals and follow-up care.

The launch of the mobile unit aligns with broader initiatives to strengthen preventive and diagnostic cardiac care infrastructure across South Asia. SRM Medical College joins a growing number of healthcare providers deploying mobile clinics to identify at-risk populations and reduce diagnostic delays in cardiac emergencies.
