M.K. Stalin, leader of the opposition DMK party in Tamil Nadu, has termed the scrapping of the Parandur airport project as an irreversible setback for the state's development. He argued that the site had been meticulously chosen following a comprehensive assessment of all viable alternatives before its formal approval.
Staling's comments come after the state government's decision to abandon the major infrastructure project, which had been envisioned as a key addition to Tamil Nadu's aviation infrastructure. The opposition leader contended that the project represented significant potential for the region's economic growth and connectivity.
In a show of solidarity with Stalin's position, DMK members of the legislative assembly staged a walkout during proceedings to register their protest against the project's cancellation. The move underscores the party's strong opposition to what they view as a reversal of critical developmental initiatives.
The Parandur airport project had been among several proposed aviation infrastructure developments aimed at easing congestion at Chennai International Airport and improving regional connectivity across Tamil Nadu.
