Teresa Kok, the Member of Parliament for Seputeh representing Pakatan Harapan, has raised concerns about the lack of clear procedures for elderly Malaysian citizens wishing to return home accompanied by their adult children.
Kok pointed out that the current administrative and structural framework does not adequately address the needs of senior citizens in this situation, creating unnecessary obstacles for families seeking to reunite in Malaysia.
The lawmaker has formally notified the Home Ministry (KDN) of the matter, urging authorities to develop a standardised operating procedure that would streamline the return process for elderly citizens travelling with adult offspring.
The issue underscores gaps in Malaysia's current immigration and administrative protocols, particularly regarding family reunification cases involving senior citizens. Kok's intervention suggests the need for a more comprehensive review of procedures governing such circumstances.
The Home Ministry has not yet publicly responded to the concerns raised.
