Starlink asserts regulatory approval, readiness to launch India services

Starlink said Friday it has collaborated extensively with Indian regulators, industry stakeholders and telecom operators over more than five years to establish the groundwork for launching high-speed internet services across the country. The company stated it has constructed a dedicated network of gateways and infrastructure within India specifically to handle domestic traffic, all purportedly in compliance with government requirements.

In a social media statement, Starlink emphasized its readiness to connect India with broadband services, underscoring its commitment to operating within the country's regulatory framework. The company's statement appeared to directly address concerns about adherence to local laws and operational compliance.

Starlink's announcement follows a statement from Reliance Industries, which said it welcomes competition in the satellite communications sector, including from Starlink, but stressed that all operators must fully comply with Indian regulations. The exchange highlights the intensifying competition in India's satellite internet market as multiple players position themselves to capture market share in the world's most populous nation.

The developments underscore ongoing discussions between foreign satellite internet providers and Indian authorities regarding licensing, infrastructure deployment and regulatory compliance in the emerging space communications sector.
