Stop sharing school violence videos, urges DAP lawmaker

Kampung Tunku assemblyman Lim Yi Wei raised concerns over the widespread sharing of school violence videos, cautioning that the practice could inspire similar acts among students. The DAP representative highlighted the dangers of viral circulation of such sensitive content, particularly in digital spaces frequented by young people.

Lim warned that the proliferation of violence-related school footage creates a contagion effect, potentially normalizing aggressive behaviour and prompting imitation among peers. The circulation of such videos has become increasingly common in Malaysia, with clips often spreading rapidly across social media platforms despite their disturbing nature.

The lawmaker's statement reflects growing alarm among legislators and child welfare advocates about the impact of easily accessible violent content on school safety. Experts have previously cautioned that exposure to such material, combined with its viral nature, can desensitize viewers and lower inhibitions against violence.

Institutions and platform operators have been urged to implement stricter measures in preventing the distribution of school-related violence content. Educational authorities and parents have also been called upon to monitor and report such videos to relevant authorities.
