LUCENA CITY — A 65-year-old woman died following a collision between a tricycle and truck on the Maharlika Highway in Gumaca, Quezon province on Sunday, Aug. 30, authorities said Monday.
The woman, who had recently suffered a stroke, was being transported to a hospital for emergency treatment when the accident occurred. The tricycle she was traveling in struck a truck while in transit along the busy highway corridor that connects southern Quezon communities.
Quezon police documented the incident in an official report filed Aug. 31. The collision resulted in fatal injuries to the elderly passenger, though additional details regarding circumstances of the crash remained under investigation.
The fatality adds to mounting concerns about road safety along major provincial highways in the region, where collisions between large commercial vehicles and smaller public transportation frequently result in casualties. Local authorities have not released further details on the truck driver or additional passengers involved in the incident.
