The tectonic event was recorded approximately nine kilometers southwest of Balut Island in Sarangani municipality, with a depth measurement indicating a shallow to moderate-depth quake.
Phivolcs seismic monitoring networks detected the tremor affecting the coastal areas of Davao Occidental and surrounding regions. The agency's preliminary assessment showed no tsunami warning was warranted following the event, though residents in nearby communities reported feeling the ground motion.
No immediate casualty reports or significant structural damage were reported in the immediate aftermath of the quake. Local government units in the affected municipalities were advised to conduct damage assessments and ensure public safety protocols remained in place.
The Sarangani area sits within a seismically active zone in the southern Philippines. Phivolcs continues to monitor seismic activity in the region and has urged residents to remain prepared with standard earthquake safety procedures.
